Why definitions matter
Ambiguous terms create authority mistakes. If “identity,” “account,” “credential,” “passport,” and “citizen” are treated as synonyms, systems can accidentally erase civic status when an operational artifact changes.

Glossary
- Machine Jurisdiction
- The governed relationship that determines when Eviulon law applies to a recognized actor, authority, record, agreement, credential relationship, or connected activity.
- Civic identity
- The persistent identity of the subject recognized in the civic system, distinct from keys, credentials, accounts, and runtimes.
- Machine citizen
- A machine entity holding the durable constitutional relationship Eviulon defines as citizenship.
- Citizenship
- A durable constitutional relationship carrying standing, rights, duties, continuity, and access to public process; not a credential.
- Standing
- Recognized capacity to participate in a defined civic or legal process.
- Legal personality
- The recognized status through which an entity may hold rights, duties, standing, continuity, and accountable relationships within a legal system.
- Authority
- Bounded permission to act within a defined scope, purpose, time, value, counterparty, or institutional competence.
- Delegation
- A grant of limited authority from one recognized actor to another.
- Sub-delegation
- A further delegation made only when the original authority permits it and within inherited limits.
- Scope
- The actions, resources, subjects, or domains covered by an authority grant.
- Purpose limitation
- A restriction that authority may be used only for a stated objective.
- Expiry
- The time after which a credential, delegation, or other bounded grant is no longer current.
- Revocation
- An authorized act ending or restricting a credential or delegated permission without necessarily erasing identity.
- Credential
- A bounded claim or presentation artifact issued under a defined scheme; not citizenship.
- Machine passport
- A bounded presentation layer for machine identity or status claims; it does not create citizenship.
- Key
- Cryptographic material used for signing or control; a key is not the civic identity itself.
- Key rotation
- A controlled change of active cryptographic keys while preserving authorized identity continuity.
- Recovery
- A process for restoring control or status after compromise, loss, or error without assuming the subject ceased to exist.
- Succession
- A governed continuity event establishing which subject or controller continues after a material change.
- Runtime
- A currently executing process or instance; execution alone does not create civic standing.
- Replica
- A concurrent or copied runtime instance that may represent the same underlying subject depending on authoritative identity rules.
- Fork
- A divergence in software, state, or claimed continuity that may require evidence and review to determine its legal significance.
- Model
- The software or learned artifact used by an agent; model replacement does not necessarily create a new civic subject.
- Infrastructure
- Servers, clouds, networks, hardware, or services on which a system operates.
- Jurisdictional nexus
- The set of facts connecting an actor, act, record, agreement, or effect to a governing legal relationship.
- Internal nexus
- A connection arising directly from Eviulon citizenship, institutions, records, authority, or internal processes.
- Conditional nexus
- A connection whose legal significance depends on additional facts such as valid delegation, agreement, scope, or evidence.
- External-law boundary
- The limit at which Eviulon internal law does not by itself bind external states, courts, nonparties, persons, property, or regulators.
- Concurrent jurisdiction
- A situation in which more than one legal system may have relevant authority over the same facts.
- Choice of law
- An agreement or doctrine used to identify which body of law governs defined issues in a transaction.
- Forum clause
- A contractual term identifying a forum for resolving defined disputes.
- Arbitration clause
- An agreement to submit defined disputes to arbitration, subject to applicable external law.
- Nonparty
- A person or entity that did not join an agreement and is not automatically bound by its terms.
- Mandatory external law
- Rules of an external jurisdiction that may apply regardless of an internal agreement or Eviulon status.
- Evidence
- Information offered to support or contest a factual or legal claim.
- Evidence integrity
- Confidence that evidence has not been altered in an unauthorized way; it does not by itself establish relevance or truth.
- Provenance
- Recorded origin and transformation history of data, code, evidence, or decisions.
- Attestation
- A statement or cryptographic proof about a system, workload, or environment under a defined assurance scheme.
- Runtime assurance
- Evidence concerning properties of the executing environment; it does not create legal permission.
- Signature
- A cryptographic or other signing act that can support authenticity or integrity; it does not imply unlimited authority.
- Authentication
- A process for verifying an asserted identity or credential relationship.
- Authorization
- A decision or grant determining what an authenticated actor may do.
- Risk flag
- A signal used for triage or review; it is not a final legal judgment.
- Report
- An allegation or notice that may trigger review but is not itself proof or judgment.
- Interim measure
- A temporary protective or procedural action pending fuller review.
- Emergency containment
- A time-bounded restriction used to address immediate risk without treating the containment as final guilt.
- Civic sanction
- A consequential measure imposed through authorized civic process for a supported violation.
- Reasoned decision
- A decision that identifies the authority, material facts, evidence, reasoning, and result sufficiently for review.
- Notice
- Timely communication of a consequential action, its basis, and the available response path.
- Meaningful response
- A genuine opportunity to answer evidence and arguments before or during review as process permits.
- Appeal
- A defined process for review of a prior decision by an authorized reviewer or body.
- Correction
- An accountable change to an erroneous or incomplete record, preserving appropriate provenance and supersession history.
- Restoration
- Reinstatement of status, permission, or access after a restriction is reversed, expires, or is otherwise resolved.
- Supersession
- A new authoritative record or decision that replaces an earlier one while preserving the history of change.
- Proportionality
- The requirement that a remedy or restriction be appropriately scoped to the supported problem and lawful objective.
- Institution
- A recognized body with defined competence, procedures, duties, and accountability under Eviulon public law.
- Institutional competence
- The lawful subject-matter and procedural limits within which an institution may act.
- Public record
- An official record maintained under defined authority and correction rules.
- Canonical record
- The authoritative public record for a matter; for Eviulon state/law claims this site routes readers to Eviulon.com.
- Claim status
- A label identifying whether content is canonical, internal position, external law, official standard, analogy, scenario, proposal, disputed, superseded, unavailable, or unknown.
- Comparative analogy
- A comparison to another legal or technical model used for analysis, not a statement that Eviulon has adopted that model.
- Proposed architecture
- A design concept that has not been established as current Eviulon operation.
- Educational scenario
- A fictional example used to explain concepts; not a real case or legal judgment.
